UnCommon Bodies – Coming Soon!

Coming November 24, 2015

Step right up to the modern freakshow — We have mermaids, monsters, and more. You won't be disappointed, but you may not get out alive.

UnCommon Bodies presents a collection of 20 beautifully irreverent stories which blend the surreal and the mundane. Together, the authors explore the lives of the odd, the unbelievable, and the impossible. Imagine a world where magic exists, where the physical form has the power to heal or repulse, where a deal with the devil means losing so much more than your soul.

This is my story in the anthology:

Don't Touch Me
Fighting is what Beau does best, because the very thing he dreads is exactly what lends him the extraordinary strength to defeat even the worst odds. And he does it all with the help of his angel, the woman he longs desperately to hold... but can't.

Better the Devil You Know – Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I know I've probably said it already at least once. Probably more. But... I was not expecting the reception I've gotten for Devil. I've received more fan mail for this book than any other. I'm floored. Completely.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has shared my blog posts, the buy links, left reviews, recommended it. Really amazing. I am truly thankful for all you wonderful folks! <3

Questions about Better the Devil You Know

Since I've received numerous emails over the weekend about Devil, I thought I'd lay out the answers here :)

Q: Why is there a paperback but no ebook on Amazon?

A: Two different review processes. Paperbacks go through Createspace and they don't seem to scan for content, only technical specs. Once Devil was accepted in paperback, I figured I'd try for the ebook too - originally I wasn't going to bother because I didn't think it would pass review. I was right. The file was rejected because it violates their submission guidelines.

Q: I thought Smashwords accepted everything. Why is Devil banned there?

A: After some email exchanges with the Smashwords team, it was decided that it violates their guidelines. Their exact wording was:

"We have been reviewing your book in greater detail, and the decision was that it is not a good fit for us. It will remain unpublished on Smashwords."

Why? Too murdery.

Q: So where can I get it?

A: See this post for all the links :)

A huge thanks to everyone who've been sharing links/recommended Devil! Much appreciated :) I'm very happy that it's getting to readers!

High Praise for Better the Devil You Know!

Guys. I'm really proud of this one. Pardon me while I pat myself on the back a little, k?

From the first delicious, malignant details that set the stage, through the pas de deux of parry and riposte, to the grande finale, Better the Devil You Know will have you by the short and curlies and will leave you in awe. - ★★★★★ ggr-reviews.com

This is one of the darkest books I've ever read. Parts of it were so disturbing that I don't even know how to convey the depravity. It is absolutely not for many, but for a certain audience, it is perfection. Better the Devil You Know is horrific, smart and beyond rare. - ★★★★½ Fangirl Moments and My Two Cents

A wonderful piece of writing from a master of words. Dark, twisted, fucked up - and oh so bloody clever. [...] This is clever, pulls no punches and hurts real good. [...] The characterization of Byron is brilliant in its monstrosity. - ★★★★★ x3 Boy Meets Boy Reviews

What I’ve been waiting for is a novel that would engage and repulse, all at the same time, and Bey Deckard has delivered in a big way with Better the Devil You Know, a perfectly twisted tale that looks at evil through the eyes of a serial killer... - ★★★★★ The Novel Approach

Mr. Deckard is a very clever and gifted storyteller who can write a fantastic tale that takes the reader to hell and back. Enjoy the ride! - ★★★★★ KathyMac Reviews

Here is a the most up to date list of where you can purchase all versions.

Original post

It's October 1st in parts of the world... why don't we pretend we're all over there so I can launch this puppy, eh?

The TL;DR of this post is: read the warnings, m'kay? I don't want people going into this unprepared. BUY links are at the bottom of the post.

Here goes:

Better the Devil You Know - a new psychosexual horror novel by Bey Deckard

Novel (40 000 words)
Genre(s): Horror, torture, paranormal, serial killer

Tags: graphic torture, forced incest, rape

Byron is tall, handsome, well spoken, wealthy, and has outstanding taste in wine and food. You’ll be impressed by his impeccable attire and eloquence in conversation, ranging from Baroque art to the newest advances in pharmacology. With his charming smile and elegant manners, Byron truly is the perfect date… and who doesn’t love a man who appreciates opera?

What’s the catch, you ask?

Just this: if Byron finds you suitable, he will subject you to utterly depraved forms of torture.

No, I’m not talking about S&M.

Byron will mutilate, rape, and then kill you. Don’t think that you will survive the encounter, because you won’t. He has a perfect record.

Intrigued? Would you like me to arrange a rendezvous? It has to be in the next few days because he’s leaving on a trip south to much warmer climes, and his calendar will be completely full.

Yes? Very good. I will make a reservation for two under the name of Smith.

Who am I? I’m Gloria, his personal assistant.

†††

Ok - I really hate trigger warnings. I do. However, I really need to stress that this book is not for everyone. Hell... I don't even know who this book is for. Me... yes. But you? Will you like it? Maybe like is the wrong word. Or... is it? :)

I've been sort of vague about what the book is about. That's because it's hard to talk about it without spoilers. I've had a few questions:

Is it romance? No.

Is it m/m? It's only male/male in the sense that it features organs traditionally thought of as male.

What is it? A psychosexual, paranormal horror/thriller.

Read an excerpt

Still want it? You have two options at the moment. You can buy it (Mobi, ePub, or PDF) via Payhip (promise that it's secure) or you can buy it through All Romance eBooks. I'm still waiting on the verdict from Smashwords, but it doesn't look good.  Oct. 1 update: officially BANNED at Smashwords. We won't even talk about Amazon. Oct 4. update: ebook BANNED at Amazon but NOT the paperback (So how do I get it for my kindle?)

Feb. 14, 2017 update: Amazon has relented and reversed the ban... as long as it's listed solely under "horror" :)

The Actor’s Circle

What is The Actor's Circle?

the-actors-circle

Well, it's a new series. I've had all these seeds of of stories kicking around in my head for a while, and while writing The Complications of T, I started to get a picture of what I could do with all of them. Then, with The Last Nights of The Frangipani Hotel, the idea really solidified... especially when halfway through writing it, my brain was already writing the next.

How many books are in the series?

Four. There are three standalone books: The Complications of T, The Last Nights of The Frangipani Hotel, and hopefully coming before the end of the year, The Window in Between. What order you read them is entirely up to you.

The fourth book, which will bear the series' name, The Actor's Circle, will be about the three couples that came together in the first three books. I have to say, I'm very excited to write it. :)

I have no fucking clue whether I'm going to cock it up, given what I'm planning for the fourth, but let me just say that I'm enjoying the hell out of the process!

Wondering which retailer pays me the most?

#1 is Payhip. Not a retailer, but an online shop that I've set up myself. This is where I make the most return on my books.

Then after that it gets a little complicated, but these are the three best choices:

At Eden Books*, I make 70% royalties for all titles.

At Smashwords, I make 60% royalties for all titles.

At Amazon, for books OVER $2.99 (USD) I make 70% royalties and for books UNDER $2.99 I make 35%

So... if the book is under $2.99, buy from Eden Books or Smashwords.

If the books is over $2.99, buy from Eden Books or Amazon.

But best of all, buy from my Payhip store :)

*Not all my titles are available at Eden yet as of 25/09/23 - I'm working on it.
