2. Rather embarrassed to be contacting an author for the first time – but you chose the best narrator possible for the Baal’s Heart series. Michael Ferraiuolo is an amazingly talented narrator (voice actor) who just nails Tom’s voice. I’ve never, ever listened twice to an audiobook, but I’ve listened to the whole Baal’s Heart series twice. And yes – predictably as per the Amazon reviews – I’m so in love with Tom I can’t let go. Not sure how you do it… ;) I’m off to listen to Sacrificed again because when Tom says he love Jon I might as well just f**king explode. BTW, and if you have time and can be arsed – do you have any audiobook recommendations that you love?

   • Thank you! I was floored by Michael’s performance. It’s like he took the voices right out of my head. I’m glad you enjoyed the books so much :D

     Funny story: the very first audiobook I ever listened to was… Caged. LOL
     I’d never listened to audiobooks before but I knew that some of my readers really wanted audio versions so I got them done and had to listen to them to proof them. I still haven’t listened to any audiobooks other than my own because I have such a hard time following the story. Just to proof my books I had to lie completely still with my eyes closed so that I could hear all the words. My neighbours must have thought I was crazy because I was out in my hammock, laughing (or crying) while proofing the Baal’s Heart books.

     So… unfortunately I don’t have any audiobook recommendations. I’m sorry :/

     • Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Audiobooks are great for listening to on a walk, and doing the cleaning 😉) It’s like listening to a radio play (the good books anyway). Yes – I do miss some of the plot – but I listen to so many and few are good enough for me to care. Ok, embarrassing question (which proves your point): on second listen I still couldn’t work out Bolsaro’s motivation for going north. Pure adventure? That seemed most likely. To see what was on the other side? I know it was a plot device, but… Also, just listened to F.I.S.T.s 1+2 and Exposed: more great narrators. Wow, you can pick ’em. Bad narrators can destroy even the best books. 😀

       • I think it’s an auditory processing thing. Like I can’t watch a movie without subtitles or I miss what’s happening. My eyes are too keen… I get so wrapped up in visual details that my hearing falls by the wayside. 😅 It might be why I watch movies over and over again.

         You made me think of an audiobook I HAVE listened to (heh while doing the washing up) – it was originally a podcast but they have it on audible. It’s Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets. I love Fry and it was hilarious, disturbing, and downright entertaining.

         Baltsaros going north in Fated? It was to track down and kill the barbarians who took him as a child.

         Wasn’t Nick great at Sarge’s voice? He got it perfect. And Exposed was a hard one to cast. I needed someone who could do all the different accents and Dan really stepped up. :D

         I don’t know if I’m going to get my upcoming title made into an audiobook. One of the main characters is mute… I’m not exactly sure how his sign language would translate into audio.

         LOL aw… I wouldn’t lose patience. And wow thank you for the generous tip! I’m very appreciative.

         Hm. Book recommendations. So… 99% of what I read these days is non-fiction. The last five books that I read that I *really* enjoyed are:

         A Mind of Its Own: A Cultural History of the Penis by David Friedman
         The Facemaker by Lindsey Fitzharris
         The Butchering Art by Lindsey Fitzharris
         Queer City: Gay London from the Romans to the Present Day by Dan Ackroyd
         The Adversary by Emmanuel Carrère

         Right now I’m reading Boy George’s first autobiography (Take it Like a Man) and I am loving it.

         But when it comes to books that have inspired me… everything by Neil Gaiman, Melanie Rawn, Poppy Z. Brite, Dan Abnett, Guy G Kay, John Irving, Chuck Palahniuk, Heinlein, Richard Siken, GRR Martin, Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman, Garth Ennis, Anne McCaffrey, Alan Moore, John le Carré, Thomas Pynchon, Edward Lee, HST… the list goes on.

         AND I’m greatly influenced by film… Guillermo del Toro, Gregg Araki, Quentin Tarantino, Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, Anders Thomas Jensen, Nicolas Winding Refn… again, I can go on for a while 🤣

         But, for instance, Sacrificed (since you mentioned it before) was influenced partly by a book called Aztec by Gary Jennings that I read when I was 13/14 that really stuck with me, and by a song I love by Stan Rogers – Northwest Passage https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=xMRpYtAhGAo (which is about early explorers who were trying to discover a route across Canada to the Pacific Ocean), and by the Dragonlance chronicles, an episode of Star Trek TNG (Chain of Command), and also by a dream I had 😅

         Are you on Facebook at all? I have a group… if you’re interested in stuff that is similar to mine, maybe they can recommend something?

         • Narrating a mute man would be a challenge even for the best of them. I’ve joined the FB group even though I’m not a huge fan of FB – but I see its uses. I went straight to Amazon to look for “A Mind of Its Own” but they want $100 for it because it must be out of print! I guess I’ll find my penis history elsewhere.

           OK – so you have a lot of authors who inspire you – maybe I should broaden my horizons away from gay erotica 😆

           Am reading the Raised by Wolves series by W. A. Hoffman. A real book (well, Kindle)!! I forgot how good actual reading is. Amazing series – who would have guessed that our heroes don’t fuck until book two and it’s still erotic…

         • Have you ever been so let down by a book you want to throw it out the window and then stamp on your Kindle? I said I was reading the “Raised by Wolves” series by WA Hoffman about gay, buggering buccaneers in the 17th century, but by Book 4 they’ve become pussies, preaching about religion, talking about the importance of putting their children and rainbow families first and… worst of all … bulging, muscular arse-loving, woman-hating Pete … falls in love with a woman, gets married, has a kid and settles down.

           Fuck you WA Hoffman.

           When’s your next book out? I need a fix of real men who don’t suddenly decide they like vag ;) Oh – and are you the only guy who writes great gay, complex, dark erotic romance that doesn’t end with kids and marriage? Seems like it… thank God.

         • I have not read those. Hm… so, I haven’t actually read many books like the ones I’ve read. I guess that’s why I write them heh. But, I do know some authors who get recommended in the same threads as I do, like R. Phoenix, Jack L Pyke who both write darker stuff.          • Thank you so much for recommending Jack L Pyke. Her Don’t Series just blew me away and has been the most addictive thing ever, with characters I haven’t wanted to let go since the Baal’s Heart Series. I truly appreciate you having pointed me to her (while I await your new one!!). Now I’m lost trying to find anything so good as her/you – just finding the usual bloody predictable gay fluff on Goodreads. R Phoenix okay but very hardcore. Sorry to put this on you again – but is there any way you can point me to darker MMM stuff like yours and the Don’t series? I just can’t find anyone as good as you for recommendations!

           Also – just read Kestrel’s Talon. Bloody amazing! And — arg — no sequel. Sob.

           Happily awaiting the Blacksmith’s Apprentice – I’m sure it will be awesome as usual.

       • No sequel yet, no. Sigh. So many books… so little time. I’ll get to it eventually. :)

         So, I asked around for other book suggestions and someone said to look up Kol Anderson and Kyle Michel Sullivan – I can’t personally vouch for them because I haven’t read any of their books, but it’s worth a shot. I did read something rather fun a while back called Xperiment by Dan Skinner. I also liked Still Waters by F.E. Feeley Jr.

         Other authors I can suggest are Brad Vance (I don’t know what the availability of his books are these days. He tragically passed away 😭 – he was a friend), I haven’t read his full body of work but what I did read I enjoyed. Joseph Tonlet also has some great work.
